Weekend Report
Tuesday, February 5, 2008 Has it really been that long? I should have been writing updates more often, because boy do I have stories to tell. Maybe I’ll just bullet point them for ya.
1) I bought a car. I traded in the Lexus for a Lincoln Towncar, and OMG it’s HUGE!!! I love it. I now ride in full pimpin’ style in my 2 ton, 18-foot mass of steel.
2) A couple weeks ago, a girl who I was really starting to enjoy ended our courtship because she “was starting to have feelings for me but felt the need to be without a boyfriend”. I found out she now has a boyfriend. (UPDATE: She no longer has a boyfriend. I feel sorry for her, but I think for my own best interests, I should keep a distance.)
3) I had a drink with Jenny on Wednesday night… and that was it. I got the fade from her over the weekend (from an offer for dinner), and I think I’m just going to give up on her.
4) Thursday night, although the last day of my workweek, I went home after a couple beers with Sean. I was tired.
5) I had dinner with Dave at Cibo de Vino Friday night. The food was good, but not spectacular. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food, ambiance, and service. The hostess was drop-dead gorgeous, and a Math major. (Which I find ultimately sexy.) I’ll be going back.
I had in fact planned to go back to invite the hostess for a drink next door (Cibo de Vino is adjacent to Matinee’s). The plan was to meet Sean and another friend at Matinee’s and I would walk in to Cibo de Vino and invite her to join us. Unfortunately, I got there too late. She had already left for the evening.
I ran into an ex girlfriend from 10 years ago at Matinee’s, which was pretty odd. Then Sean showed up. We all had a drink, and I had recommended 856, so we headed on over.
I like 856. The crowd is great (generally dressed to go out), the bartenders are attentive, and the cocktail waitress was friendly. (Yeah, they were hot too). At about 1:00, I decided I was done for the evening, and relayed that to Sean. Since the staff hadn’t called last call yet, and the lights were still low, Sean looked at me after I told him I was going to go and asked: “Are you OK?” I guess it’s that unusual for me to leave before last call.
6) Saturday my power kept going out. The first time was at about 4:30. As is started to get dark outside, I decided I’d just take a nap. I was woken up by the power coming back on at around 6:00. At 6:10, it went back out again. I decided to take a tent light and attach it to my shower curtain, turn on my battery-powered radio, and take a shower with my gas-heated water. When I was just finishing getting dressed at about 7:00, the power came back on. I hung around the house, ate some dinner, and decided to go play some poker online. I started up 4 single table tournaments, got outdrawn on the river by calling stations a disgusting number of times, but still managed 3rd place in one of them, and 1st place in another. Then I started another set of 4 tournaments, and shortly after, the power went out again, resulting in 4 losses. I decided to go out. I was surprised to see the most of members of the old band the Mother Funkers together, rockin’ the house by bringin’ the funk. Seeing a white haired, 75 year old black man dressed in his 1970’s finest polyester, beltin’ out the funk makes for a good night, no matter how your day went. I struck up conversations with a number of different people throughout the night. Saw a lot of old faces… some I hadn’t seen for years. All in all it was a good night.
7) Super Bowl Sunday I came out as the big winner of the plethora of $1.00 betting opportunities my Dad makes for the game. I split my Super Bowl time between Franks house and a party Sean invited me to. Both were fun. It’s interesting to me that I can walk into a house where I expect to know only one person, and know several people there. This is why I probably won’t move from Stockton. Not to say there aren’t reasons I would move, but not just because I have a 50-mile drive to work.
So that was the weekend. I just got a call from Brian. He has a couple VIP passes to the Velvet Revolver show tonight at the Warfield. How can I pass that up? I guess I'll be in late to work tomorrow.
